Biography

Pavlo Smytsnyuk specializes in political theology, peacebuilding, and Eastern Christianity. He is a visiting scholar at New York University's Jordan Center and teaches theology at Regis High School in New York. Before moving to New York, he held research and teaching positions at Princeton University and George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and directed the Institute of Ecumenical Studies at Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. He studied philosophy and theology in Rome, Athens, and St. Petersburg, and holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford. Smytsnyuk is co-editor of Marian Reflections on War and Peace: Trauma, Mourning, and Justice in Ukraine and Beyond (Routledge, 2025), and is completing a monograph, Empire and Resistance: Political Theology in the Russo-Ukrainian War.
