Eastern Christianity, in the richness and diversity of its traditions, its Churches and its cultural expressions, is the subject of serious and growing academic research, spread across the world. Researchers engaged in this field often lack a common space to connect, read one another and collaborate at an international level.

It is to address this need that APECS was born.

Initiated by the Institut chrétiens d’Orient (ICO) and its academic and institutional partners, this international platform aims to bring together the scholarly community engaged in the study of Eastern Christianity. It offers a researcher directory, a bibliographic database, an academic events calendar and specialised resources, in service of a living and open inter-university network.

APECS is intended for scholars and researchers, doctoral candidates, cultural institutions, as well as anyone seriously engaged in this field of study.

Project history

Project Genesis

At the initiative of the Institut chrétiens d'Orient, a group of researchers and academic institutions identified the need for a common space dedicated to the study of Eastern Christianity. This is a field rich in scholarship yet lacking international visibility and coordination.

Building the Network

Partnerships were established with universities and research institutions across the world. Together, they laid the foundations of a genuine inter-university collaborative network with a truly global reach.

Platform Launch

APECS went live with its core features: a researcher directory, a bibliographic database, and an academic events calendar. For the first time, the global scholarly community working on Eastern Christianity has a unified reference point.
