Antoine Fleyfel is a professor of theology and philosophy, specializing in Eastern Christianity, contextual theology, and the geopolitics of religion. He holds a PhD in philosophy from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University (2007) and a PhD in theology from the University of Strasbourg (2011). He has been a visiting professor at Saint Joseph University of Beirut since 2011 and served as a lecturer and then full professor at the Catholic University of Lille from 2012 to 2019.
He has been the founder and director of the Institut chrétiens d’Orient (ICO) in Paris since 2020. He also founded the book series “Pensée religieuse et philosophique arabe” at L’Harmattan (2011) and the academic journal Perspectives et Réflexions (2012), published by L’Œuvre d’Orient.
He is the author of several books, including La théologie contextuelle arabe (L’Harmattan, 2011), Les dieux criminels (Cerf, 2017), and La prière maronite (Salvator, 2020). Since 2004, he has developed a method for teaching Lebanese Arabic, with courses in Paris and several reference manuals, including Manuel de parler libanais (L’Harmattan, 2019) and Le Liban en parler libanais (L’Harmattan, 2026).
His research focuses on Eastern Christianities, the religious and political dynamics of the Middle East, ecumenical and interreligious dialogue, and contemporary transformations of religious identities. The author of more than 200 publications, he regularly contributes to media and academic conferences, combining research, teaching, and field expertise.
